A jury of art professionals chose my humble illustration to be one of this year's Arts Council billboards.  And I AM SO EXCITED!  Thanks jury members, Arts Council of Greater Lansing & Adams Outdoor Advertising for making this happen.  Definitely a highlight of my year!

'Tis the season for young artists

Some phenomenally talented 6 and 7 year olds who attend school in Devizes in Wiltshire, England created a beautiful paper collage version of my Mini Nativity.  

The children in Miss Handley's year 2 class referenced my piece and then designed their version of shepherds, houses, sheep and kings.  This gorgeous mural is now on display in their classroom! 

So much hard work and collaboration went into creating such a lovely piece of art!  I hope they are proud of themselves and continue to be creative.

Wolf wonderland

Zoo holiday card art

A little holiday or as I punned it howliday cheer from my friends at Potter Park Zoo (and me).

If you haven't visited their wolves in the fur, I highly recommend it. And since they are native to cold temps, they will still want visitors over the next wintery months.

I have not carved a pumpkin in probably sixteen years... So even though we kept our designs pretty basic, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I no longer had to use those terrible dull blade plastic 'safe' knives that were so popular in the 80s & 90s.

Pumpkin carving technology has evolved: tiny metal saws, scoopers & we even pulled out the power drill-a.k.a. my new favorite! Which means I will be drilling holes in other produce throughout the year just for the fun of it.  Happy Halloween!

Kid art afternoon

I helped my wildling make a painted noodle necklace today. Rotini noodles, acrylic paint & a little string is all you really need.

After some free-drawing with markers, I opened my magazine to see that she had altered one of the ads by giving the model a dog on a leash.  I love my little creative weirdo.

I just finished designing a billboard for the PPZ Boo at the Zoo. Whenever I have the opportunity to put tiny hats on animals, I'm gonna put tiny hats on animals. That is a promise.

Kids n Tots: Wearable Art

With the help of mom, husband (& friend who watched our kidlet) we harvested my beehive today!

Lady Beard Bees made a very light & crisp honey this year.  It's so delicious, rather than selling it, I'm storing it for the apocalypse. So meet me at world's end, I'll be the girl with the sticky fingers.

Mother/kid art project day: "Monster Mouth"

The wildling & I did an art collaboration today.  We named it "Monster Mouth" and it was SUPER FUN!  So I've decided to do ONE LAST art workshop of the summer & spread the awesome around!  Hope your little artist can join me on August 14th, see flyer for details & registration.

Give me some of your tots

Finished up the last of my summer workshop series with the Tots.  This group of youngsters ranging from 4-6 in age did an amazing job transforming their 'Knock, knock houses' into beautiful & slightly crazy works of art.  Beautiful & slightly crazy just so happens to be one of my favorite combinations...

So Raven

Potter Park Zoo is opening a new exhibit for their Raven very soon. With new exhibits comes great responsibility... And also an abundance of signage designed by me.  Here are a couple of my faves. 

ArtQuest Adventures

Kids workshop: collage pop-up butterflies

A small but fiercely talented group of girls signed up for my 'collage pop-up butterflies' workshop.  We had so much fun & the butterflies turned out amazing!

Tots Workshop: Masking Tape Forest

My house was invaded by 7 tiny tots, all demanding art.  Fortunately I was ready for them.  Here's a few pix of some of the masterpieces created by these 4-6 year olds.  It did my heart good!

A K8 art inspired, kid-created mural

Idylwood Presbyterian Church in Virginia is paying homage to my 'Mini Nativity' on the walls of their school.  These young artists have been working diligently all spring on their masterpiece and here's the progress so far.  I think they are doing a great job and I'm looking forward to seeing the final piece!

ARTQUEST is ALMOST HERE!

Art enthusiasts and geocachers get ready! My ArtQuest project has finally been completed, installed and ready for the artventures to begin.

In a move that is counterproductive to the scavanger hunt aspect of the show, I'm also hosting a little shindig at my piece on Thursday, June 5th 5:30-7:30 and you are invited.

Hope to see you there, but if you can't make it to my kickoff, you still have until August 30th to get in on the fun!
