My little cousin painted a beautiful portrait of her Grandpa on a pumpkin. I see a little Basquiat in her.. Later she said that she had forgotten his beard.

A Loss to the Online eBay Art Community

One of the eBay greats passed away on Wednesday. Barbara Haukenberry was my art patron this summer. She shared her extensive knowledge to help me establish my online business for no other reason than that she loved art and artists. And she would tease and say "I get to ask this or that because I discovered you."

I loved her sense of humor and her emails and she would sometimes write to me several times a day. She mentored me, gave me feedback and advice... and she was usually right.

Barbara was an animal lover who had a menagerie of pets, including several Bengal cats and parrots. She collected animals like she collected art - in mass quantities and she knew everything about the subject.

She was a great teacher to me and I am deeply saddened by her passing. I will miss her letters, her advice, but most of all, I will miss her friendship.

More Photos from Nicole's Brian Vanderark party

Clearly her photos were more awesome than mine...
If you want to have your memories frozen in awesomeness: www.nicolecottom.com

And not to be a total stalker, but COME ON!
I should've had Nicole take my shot for me so it wouldn't be completely blurry.

LlamaFEST 2008!!

Here are the highlights from this year's MSU llama festival. Unfortunately we didn't have $800 to spend on our own llama, but there's always next year.

A llama adventure can work up a sweat...Chris and I headed to the MSU dairy store for some ice cream and fresh waffle cones. mmmm....

Let Them Ride Camels

Good times were had by all as we celebrated my 30th birthday with camel rides, animal demonstrations (hissing cockroach anyone?!) and the "rain forest ice cream sundae bar".

The Best Evening Ever Spent in a Livingroom

My cousin Nicole was one of the lucky hosts to the Brian VandArk "Backyards and Living Rooms" tour. (They are also shooting a documentary of it.) And because Nicole is awesome, she let me show my artwork at the event.

Below are some photos of them performing - they are a tad dark. Which is sort of pointless of me to write, since you have eyes and can see that for yourself...

Lux Land (Brians wife and BEAUTIFUL singer)

Duet from the two of them

Arguably the BEST part of the evening! One of the people working on the Documentary is Devon Gummersall. You might remember him from a little show called "My So-Called Life" - where he played Brian Krakow.
I recently drooled over Devon in the indy film "Seven and a Match" - which is definitely worth renting.
In high school, I was in love with him... I mean, Jared Leto is pretty, but give me the smart boy anyday.... So I almost had a heart attack when I realized that he was in my cousin's living room!

Devon was very nice, and graciously posed for a photo.

Now I just have to track down Leonardo DiCaprio...

What's on the Horizon? My Brain is Growing...

Currently I am in a Dreamweaver class at LCC. I am certainly no computer genius, but the class is moving MUCH slower than what I would prefer... hence the blog WHILE sitting in class.

My favorite part of the day was after almost 3 hours of us being in class... This boy shows up and was like "I'm here for the Dreamweaver class" hahahaha... Maybe Punctuality 101 is more your speed, kid....

Second fave of the day: My teachers God-given name is "Wolfgang Miller"!

News for art lovers:
My next fine art showing is for a party that will be filmed as part of the Brian Vanderark (Vervepipe anyone?) Backyards and Living Rooms tour documentary. Hopefully it will lead to many interesting photos... check back soon!
